our zip-lining adventure:
Jake turned 20 months old on Saturday. I turned 30 years old on Sunday. How did we both get so old?!? Thank God we stop counting our ages in months after the first 2 years because I really don't want to know how many months I am! I cannot believe that in less than 4 months, our little man will be 2. I thought last year flew by, but Jake's second year has gone by even faster...
We had a great weekend celebrating his 20 and my 30. On Saturday, we took Jake to the Teaching Zoo at our local Junior College. It is a very small zoo but much closer and easier to get to than the bigger zoos. Jake had a great time checking out the animals - especially the monkeys! Saturday night we went out to dinner for my birthday with some of our friends and their kids. It was pretty crazy to have 5 high chairs at one table! Unfortunately, we didn't get a complete group photo at dinner, but after dinner we were able to get a shot of three of the moms with our kids (our friends Janice and Erik had already left to put their twins Kyra and Dylan to bed). Jake LOVES to check out fountains and water features, and he was so excited to check out the splash fountain at the outdoor mall where we ate dinner. He kept looking at the other kids who were playing and splashing around, and wanted in on this fun! It was not a warm evening, but we were taking Jake directly home for his bath, so we decided to let him play in the water (well, Jake kind of decided for us - we just didn't stop him!) He had a blast...until he got cold. Luckily, we keep towels in the car :) We can't wait to take Jakey back to this fountain on a hot Summer day!
We put Jakey to bed at my parents' house on Saturday night, and then we were able to go out for a few drinks with friends! This hardly ever happens, so it was great to have some much needed adult-only time! On Sunday, my parents watched Jake for us so we could go to Catalina on my birthday. I am not a fan of boats and I felt a little queasy on the way there despite the motion sickness meds I had taken (I'm sure the drinks I had the night before didn't help the situation!), so I was very happy when we docked. Luckily, I felt much better after we ate lunch. We spent the afternoon zip-lining and it was scary but so, so fun! There were 5 lines total and the whole process took about 2 hours. We were really nervous on the first line because we didn't know what to expect, and the second line was the longest one so that was pretty crazy too. By the third line it was really fun! I LOVED zip-lining my way into my thirties! I wish I could do it every day. Maybe one day we'll take Jakey zip-lining! It's a good workout too because two days later our abs are still sore! We finished up our Catalina day trip with a yummy dinner and dessert, and made it home just in time to say goodnight to our little guy. The perfect end to our wonderful weekend!
Jakey has been picking up tons of new words lately, and even decided to utter his first sentence "here it is" while we were gone in Catalina! I think he likes to show off in front of my parents because he always seems to try new things while they are watching him! Jake loves numbers and can correctly point out 1 through 10. He can say (almost) all of the numbers as well. Jakey has tons of books, but wants to read his favorites over and over again. Besides books about numbers, his faves are animal books (zoo books, farm animals, etc.) His favorite songs are Old MacDonald (aka "E-I-E-I"), Twinkle Twinkle ("up above the"), Row, Row, Row Your Boat, and The Itsy Bitsy Spider (he tries to do the hand motions on that one and it's super cute!) Oh, and he loves Rebecca Black's Friday because my parents taught him to throw his hands up and say "yeah" after we sing "partyin', partyin'" to him :) He's a very silly, very expressive, very active, very loud, and very adorable little guy! We are having so much fun with him at this stage, and can't wait to see what he comes up with next...
What an awesome birthday celebration!
