n addition to his constant drool. But obviously his personality hasn't been affected by the runny nose! His cough (due to the nasal drip) has been a lot better, and he is over halfway done with his antibiotics, but I just wish his poor little nose would stop running. Chasing him around all day with tissues before he can use his hand and/or sleeve to do the job (so gross!) is so not fun - for him or for us. Snot sucks. But, like I said before, he has still been his usual rambunctious self!Jakey has always been all over the place, but his walking has taken this to a whole new level! He has quickly become an awesome walker, and walks/tries to run almost exclusively. He still has trouble standing up by himself from a sitting position without using an object to help pull himself up, but he is getting better at figuring this out. And it took him a little while to get used to his big boy "walking" shoes (with harder, thicker soles). But...he wants to walk everywhere now! Which is both good and bad. Good because he needs the practice, we don't have to carry him as much, and we can do more big boy activities! Bad because he doesn't want to be confined to a stroller/car seat/high chair for very long now, we have to chase him around, we worry about him falling, and he gets frustrated easily when he tries to walk on uneven ground, sand, stairs, etc. We are so proud of our mobile little man! I LOVE when Jakey walks with me and holds onto my hand. It is just too darn cute.
One of Jake's other new tricks is "break dancing" on the ground or in the bathtub. It is so funny, and very hard to explain in writing. Basically he turns around in circles using his hands to propel the rest of his body. But we haven't been able to catch this on video yet. We will keep trying though because it is so hilarious! I have no idea why he started doing this but he thinks it's so fun!
He loves books, and will bring us books (one at a time) to read to him. He has his faves and will put aside the ones he doesn't want to read to find the ones he wants! I hope this love of reading stays with him (if he takes after me it will - if he takes after Joe...not so much).
And one more Jakey Jake tidbit before I go...he is a big fan of Ashlee Simpson! What? So random. But on our way up to SB last week I was playing a mixed CD in the car (that I had made several years ago, people!) and it has her song "Boyfriend" on it. Part of the lyrics include "Whoa, whoa, whoa ha...Whoa, whoa, whoa ha" and I noticed that Jakey was chiming in with his "wo, wo, wo" that he usually says when we sing him "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." I thought it might just be a fluke, so I played the song a few more times and every time he would say "wo, wo, wo" and sometimes "ha!" So now if he is cranky/crying in the car, I play that song and every time he quiets down to listen to it and "sings" along. I think it is hilarious, but Joe doesn't like Jakey's taste in music, and just shakes his head at me. Which makes it even funnier! If anyone can think of any other songs that rely heavily on "whoa" lyrics, let me know so that we can further this experiment!
Hope Jakey feels better soon. Who knew little guys could get sinus infections?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until Ethan is walking either -- I think! And, we've just discovered that playing Elmo songs in the car can erase any tears. I now can't get them out of my head, but at least they stop him from crying.
It's OK if Jake likes Ashlee Simpson songs. She's not really singing them anyways, right? ;-)
LOL! I can't wait to see the breakdancing. PS Erik likes Ashley too... Wuh oh!
